De Zuid-Afrikaanse schrijfster en activiste Nadine Gordimer overleed gisteravond op 90-jarige leeftijd. Gordimer won in 1991 de Nobelprijs voor de Literatuur, vanwege haar “schitterende epische teksten die van grote waarde zijn voor de mensheid”.
Naast schrijfster was de van Joods-Britse en Litouwse ouders afkomstige Gordimer ook een overtuigd activiste en zette ze zich onder meer in voor het beëindigen van de Zuid-Afrikaanse Apartheid. Ze schreef in totaal 15 romans en talloze andere verhalen, essays en andere non-fictie.
